We hope your school or organization will join us for the 2019 Young Men of Color Symposium and (Re)defining Power Conference, "Disrupting our Silence, Embracing our Complexities" on Saturday, November 9th, at Collegiate School, located at 301 Freedom Pl S, New York, NY 10069, from 10am-4pm. YMOCS and (Re)Defining run concurrently and will start promptly at 10am. Registration and continental breakfast will start at 8:45am.

Young Men of Color Symposium is a leadership conference for young self-identified men of color in grades 6-12 in the New York City area and beyond. The day will feature opportunities for participants to explore their multiple identities and learn skills geared towards self-advocacy and community building. The goal of the event is to empower students to affect positive change in their lives and their communities, using newly acquired language and knowledge.

(Re)defining Power Conference is a space for identity exploration and learning best practices as allies for young self-identified white men in grades 6-12 in New York City and beyond. The day will feature activities and opportunities for participants to learn skills geared towards building more inclusive schools. The goal of the conference is to provide young white men with language and understanding to work with their communities in the fight for racial justice and gender equity.

Adult Learner is a track designed to serve as a professional and personal development opportunity with the explicit purpose to create and sustain collaborative communities effectively serving young self-identified men of color and others around topics of masculinity, race and other social identifiers.

Our keynote speaker, Darnell Moore, author of the acclaimed “No Ashes in the Fire” will set the tone for the day, highlighting how we can interrupt stereotypical narratives of masculinity, how we can reimagine the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves and others, and how we can be in solidarity with all people in the struggle toward liberation.

Your school or organization is invited to send up to two adult chaperones and up to 10 students per conference in grades 6-12 (for a total of twenty students). We encourage your school or organization to consider sending, if possible, at least one self-identified white male chaperone and/or one self-identified male chaperone of color. If you are registering more than ten people, please complete this form for the first ten and then repeat it for the remaining number of attendees.

Online registration is open and will close on Thursday, November 7th at 9pm. In order to complete registration, you will need to pay in full using a credit or debit card; there is no offline payment option (i.e. checks, paying day of). Please note that you cannot save the form and return later to pay, so please make sure that you have payment ready while completing the registration. Please note that you will need to register as a guest in order to begin the registration process. Cost to attend will be $75 per person, including chaperones. If the cost is a potential barrier to attend, please email dvidale@riverdale.edu.

Lastly, to help with the registration process, we suggest that you gather the following information from your cohort before you begin to register folk: name, preferred name, pronouns, racial identity, school name, grade level, event attending (i.e. Young Men of Color Symposium, (Re)Defining Power Conference, Adult Learner track), email, t-shirt size, food allergies, and emergency contact
