This two part group workshop is designed to introduce students to mathematics tutoring and begin the process of improving their relationship with the subject. The two sessions will be one hour each and held on the Sunday afternoons of November 10 and 17. Under Naomi’s guidance, a group of up to 4 students in grades 4-6 will get together and workshop their relationship with math, uncover their strengths, and identify their individual learning styles. The two part workshop is $150 total for each student.
The first session will begin as a group discussion of each student’s relationship with math, including any strengths and areas for improvement. We will then work on a concept or math problem proposed by a student prior to the class, or I will teach them a new concept as time allows.
In the week between the two sessions, the students can email or text Naomi with any math questions that come up over the course of the school week. The second session will begin by addressing these questions and continue with learning new math concepts.
The goal is to identify and highlight each student’s different methods of learning and their individual perceptions of a concept once it is understood. The students will come out of the sessions with a stronger appreciation of their strengths and a path forward for customizing their future education experiences.
